You’re the first face our guests see when they arrive at the dock, so be sure to bring that amazing energy you have with you every day.

Your day looks like this: you start by getting the boats ready, selling tickets, welcoming guests aboard, checking them in as the canals start to fill up and you make sure every guest has a drink before departure. Once on board and on the water, you keep the atmosphere light and fun, you’re making sure every guest feels looked after from start to finish. By the time the last boat comes in, you’ve turned a hundred small moments into something special. We might be biased but we think it is the best job in Amsterdam.

Where will you be working?

We operate from multiple locations across Amsterdam and we are growing fast. Our fleet includes electric self-drive sloops for independent exploring, larger sloops and saloon boats for private tours with a skipper, and canal cruise boats for group departures, all spread across our two companies: Canal Motorboats and Eco Boats Amsterdam. When you join us, you work for both, meaning no two days will ever be the same.

Fun facts: Canal Motorboats, founded in 1996, is the longest-established boat rental company in the city, and our sister company Eco Boats Amsterdam is Amsterdam’s premier eco-friendly boat company.

What will you be doing?

• Preparing and organising the boat prior to departure
• Welcoming guests and creating a warm, memorable first impression from the moment they arrive
• Checking guests in and selling tickets on the dock
• Promoting our experiences enthusiastically and encouraging walk-in sales
• Ensuring all guests have a drink prior to departure and handling payments on board
• Informing guests about our tours, packages and additional activities on offer
• Coordinating smoothly with skippers and fellow hosts to keep operations running seamlessly
• Ensuring a smooth, safe and efficient boarding and disembarkation process
• Keeping the boat clean and tidy throughout the day
• Working during exciting city-wide events like the Amsterdam Light Festival, Gay Pride, King’s Day, and more

Who are you?

• 18 years or older
• Outgoing, warm, and genuinely love being around people
• A natural host; you make everyone feel welcome without even trying
• Available at least 2 to 3 days a week, including at least 1 weekend day
• Available in the evenings, during high season and on public holidays
• No 9-to-5 mentality; you love a varied, people-facing role
• Good command of English
• Any additional languages are a bonus
• A background in hospitality is a plus, though attitude matters more to us than experience
