What to expect

Enjoy the best views in the city all the while sipping on unlimited beer, wine, and soft drinks from our open bar. Aboard you will also find a selection of Dutch snacks such as our iconic bitterballen on this all-inclusive canal cruise.

While you enjoy the drinks, and the food, your experienced skipper takes you through the UNESCO-listed canal belt. That, plus the beautifully restored interior of a 1960’s saloon boat means one thing: some of the best sights in the city, so expect to have some fantastic photos!

You will have live commentary in English and Dutch from our multilingual skipper. For guests who prefer a self-guided experience, a digital audio guide is available in eight languages.

You can expect the following aboard The Barbarella:

  • Open or covered aft deck (weather dependent)
  • Open bar with unlimited beer, wine, and soft drinks
  • Onboard toilet

The route

The exact route can vary slightly on the day, but you will always cruise past some of the city’s most recognisable sights, such as:

  • National Maritime Museum
  • Rembrandt House
  • Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge)
  • The Dancing Houses
  • The Amstel River

The Barbarella Saloon Boat

The Barbarella was built in the 1960s, commissioned specifically for Maup Caransa, one of Amsterdam’s most influential post-war entrepreneurs. After rebuilding a business empire in the years following World War II, Caransa owned several major hotels in the city centre and used The Barbarella to entertain his most important guests in complete privacy. That quiet sense of occasion is still very much part of the boat.

Today, she has been fully modernised while keeping the original vintage interior intact. A new electric engine means she moves through the canals quietly and cleanly, without giving up any of the comfort or elegance she was built for.
